Welcome to Sofia School
a Czech-English bilingual preschool and elementary school located just a few kilometers from Prague, in the village of Jirny.
Why Sofia School?
Because sofia means wisdom. We see wisdom as a well-rounded understanding and a broad view of the world – and this is exactly what we want to pass on to our children.
Preschool (Mateřská škola Sofia School)
The aim of our preschool programme is to prepare children for whichever elementary school they later attend, while giving them a strong foundation in English. By the time they leave, children are ready to continue their education in schools with advanced language programmes, bilingual tracks, or international schools. At the same time, we place great importance on mastering Czech and supporting the all-round, harmonious development of preschool-age children.
At Sofia School preschool, we create the atmosphere of everyday life in a bilingual family. Each small group of children is guided by two teachers – one who speaks only Czech and one who speaks only English.
Elementary School (Základní škola Sofia School)
Our elementary school is welcoming, family-like, supportive, free-spirited, and playful. For us, learning is not just a path to wisdom, but also a form of play and enjoyment. This approach fosters children’s natural curiosity, their love of discovery, and the development of their unique personalities.
We teach children to seek solutions, see connections, express and present their ideas, and – equally importantly – to listen and respect others. Every student at Sofia School learns to think logically, apply knowledge, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.
Our pupils are not afraid of mistakes, because they understand that mistakes are a natural part of learning – and correcting them is simply a step towards the right solution.
Sofia School not only prepares academically gifted students for entrance to multi-year grammar schools (víceletá gymnázia), but also equips all children with excellent English skills and the ability to communicate fluently on any topic.
We also empathize physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, including nutrition. Learning takes place in an engaging, playful way, with some subjects taught in both Czech and English. We are proud participants in the Erasmus+ programme. Thanks to this, our pupils regularly travel abroad, experiencing school life and culture in our partner schools. For students who do not wish to continue at a grammar school, we provide smooth transitions to partner Czech-English schools in the area.
Our graduates consistently achieve outstanding results in entrance exams for grammar schools. In 2025, 90% of our fifth-grade students were accepted to their preferred multi-year grammar school.
